I have worked in the field of education for the past 18 years and currently serve as the Director of Academic Resource Services at Mount Vernon Presbyterian School in Atlanta, GA. I received both my undergraduate and Masters degrees in the field of Special Education focussing on supporting students with mild learning and behavior challenges in an inclusive setting. Prior to my current role, I taught students with mild learning differences in both elementary and middle public school settings. I now have the opportunity to support students, families and teachers as more of an “educational consultant” in an independent school.
In addition to my role as an educator, I have also experienced the challenges of supporting a very bright child with learning and attention concerns. Through both my educational and personal experiences, I have continuously researched to learn more about instructional interventions, therapeutic services and assistive technology tools that are designed to help students reach their full potential in mainstream educational environments.
In my role at Mount Vernon, I strive to partner with families and teachers to support students’ individual needs by developing academic plans that foster growth and promote lifelong learning. This blog will be dedicated to sharing these resources with our community.
